The Day the Bookstores Closed
The great day was here! The first copies of Cold ‘Coon & Collards were delivered to my house in Berkeley. This is a signature moment in the life of any first-time author, and I was no exception. Holding the book in my hands thrilled me: my own story filling hundreds of pages.
There was only one problem. Every bookstore on earth was closing in short order. A global pandemic had ruined my chances to read my work and sign books in brick and mortar stores. My problems as a writer pale in comparison to the virus that is causing such fear, pain, and grief. It will cast its shadow on every family on the planet.
Covid 19 knocked the world economy on its ass, and the butcher’s bill won’t be known for months. Infection and death rates are still soaring exponentially.
The writing on the wall was clear: if anyone was going to read my story anytime soon, I would have to sell my work myself. Paperback copies are already available on farmboypress.com, and on Amazon.
The safest way to shop for books is on ebook platforms. I would much rather read paper pages than a glowing screen, but the speed, price, and sanitation of an ebook is obvious.
I'm working on configuring a Kindle version, as well as the other ebook formats, but it might take a little while. People locked up in their houses need reading matter, and I’m determined to find an audience for my exposé of the 1950s. Click Here: Cold ‘Coon & Collards.
Waiting in the wings is Lightbulb Coffee, a saga of the sixties.
